Miss Anna Sykes- Staff Governor

I have worked at Gomersal Primary School for three years and I currently lead Key Stage 1 Phonics. I am passionate about supporting early reading and take great pride in helping children thrive and make amazing progress in their phonics and reading skills.

I became a staff governor to develop a deeper understanding of how our school operates and to also play an active role in its ongoing development. I value the opportunity to contribute to decision-making and to support our school in providing the best possible education for all children.

Mrs Sadie Booker - Co- opted Governor

Hi, I am Sadie Booker and I am a co-opted school governor, who has been supporting school in a governor role for the last 2.5 years. My day job is working within the NHS and supporting services to deliver meaningful mental health services within Bradford District. I agreed to come into a role as a school governor so I could volunteer my skills to support education oversight within my local Kirklees community.

Supporting children's mental health as part of my profession, gives me a unique perspective of mental health support in schools. As part of my school governor role, I link into the school to have governor oversight of the support provided for mental health and emotional wellbeing of the in-house school community.

Alongside this I have a role in governor oversight of the arts curriculum and I am an active part of the finance committee which involves me attending school for 'go see visits' and attending school governor meetings.

Mrs Janet Greenwood - Co-opted Governor

My name is Janet Greenwood and I joined the governing body in March 2022. I am a retired primary school teacher. I spent my career working mostly in the North Kirklees area. I joined the governing body because although I am retired now , I still felt that I would like to contribute towards children's education.

I believe that every child should be given the opportunities and experiences which enable them to thrive and develop ultimately into productive and respectable members of society. I visit the school on a regular basis. I feel privileged to be able to spend time with some amazing children, enthusiastic and dedicated staff.

I am the designated governor for Early Years and the Spenborough Cooperative Trust. In my retirement I enjoy spending time with my family and following their sporting activities.  I take part in dance and exercise classes. I also volunteer at a theatre in Leeds where I am involved in front of house duties.

Mrs Zoe Ali - Parent Governor

Hello, I'm Zoe and I am proud to be a parent governor at Gomersal Primary School.

I started working in education in 2008 as a Teacher of Business at a large secondary school in Bradford. I worked there for seven years, progressing to the senior leadership team, before moving to another large secondary school in Leeds as an Assistant Headteacher. At this school I worked as the Assistant Headteacher for behaviour, safeguarding and attendance and I was also the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

After seven years in Leeds, I moved to Thornhill Community Academy in Dewsbury as Deputy Headteacher for Pastoral and Designated Safeguarding Lead, and I was also appointed as a Trust Improvement Leader, whereby I worked across all nine schools in the multi academy trust supporting with behaviour and safeguarding standards. You may have seen the demands of working in education if you have watched series two of Educating Yorkshire, which was filmed at my school! I have recently been appointed as Headteacher at Whitcliffe Mount Academy and I am very much looking forward to the next stage of my journey in education and to working with the brilliant families of Kirklees.

I am able to bring my experience as an educator to the role of parent governor, as well as my experience as a parent of three children, to ensure I can support this wonderful school to continue going from strength to strength.

Mrs Rachel Graham - Co - opted Governor

I am a co-opted governor with responsibility for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). I have 16 years’ teaching experience across both primary and secondary settings and have worked as a SENCO for seven years. My professional background also includes experience as an assistant headteacher, giving me valuable senior leadership team (SLT) insight, as well as holding the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead.

I currently lead an additionally resourced provision for pupils with complex communication and interaction needs. This role allows me to bring a strong understanding of inclusive practice, SEND provision, safeguarding, and strategic school improvement to the governing body.

I wanted to become a governor because I recognise the positive impact governors can have in supporting and challenging schools. I am keen to use my professional experience to support my local primary school and the school my own children attend, helping to ensure all pupils, particularly those with additional needs, are able to thrive.
